The author skillfully draws parallels between the culture of the Aborigines and that of Fada and Mada (as the missionary and his wife are known) while at the same time showing the conflict between them. Aboriginal resistance grows, climaxing in a gripping maelstrom in the dream time. After Fada and Mada flee the island, leaving it in the hands of their child, the morose and infantile Sonny, Jangamuttuk and his people escape in a scene that is at once magical and realistic. Alluring and enchanting, the volume will capture readers from its first page. Mudrooroo shows once again that truth may sleep but it never dies.

I grew up in Bay Village and remember when Amy was taken. This was a good account of tale. Renner's writing style is a balance of the events, his investigation, and his experience of both the disappearance and his investigation process.It's a short easy read that everyone who appreciates true-crime should read.I too have hope that one day her killer will be unmasked and brought to justice.

I had never heard of this murder mystery. The writer never solved the mystery and somehow I failed to acknowledge that the story was about an unsolved case. All the twist and turns of the events that led up to the murder of this little child was quite interesting. The writer himself was quite a mystery also. I had no idea that he had been an actor and had played Jeffrey Daumier the boy down the street who invited his victims to dinner and ate them instead.The story is well written, but I would get tired following James Renner through all his winding roads finding the killer who was never brought to justice. This is a story of persons of interest who were connected to this little child's life. A good summer story if you have the patience to look behind every nook and cranny in the neighbor hood where Amy was taken.

I just ordered this book from Amazon and read it all in about three days. My husband has also just finished it, on my recommendation. I should say that my husband has a master's degree and a year of PhD work in English literature. I mention that fact only to establish that my husband knows a fair amount about good quality writing. Both of us think that the book is excellent and that the writing is top notch. Very gripping, a real page-turner!I had never heard of the case before myself, having grown up in downstate Illinois, nor had my husband who grew up in Chicago. We were both impressed with the amount of legwork the author put into his research, some of it trying to interview individuals who were pretty scarey people.I do wonder why the author made no mention of reporting to the local police what he saw looking into the window of an empty building having some connection to the case, located near where the poor little girl was taken. I don't want to get into specific details, but certainly what he saw was worth a police search, at least. This incident was reported right at the end of the book with no follow-up.Initially I rather suspected that the author's emotional involvement with the case would "cheapen" the story, but he handled it well and honestly, and it ended up being a positive addition.As with the other reviewers, and the author himself, I fervently hope that the case can somehow still be solved as the disappearance of Etan Patz may have been just recently. How can people do this to little children?

Really good read. I'm a My Favorite Murderino and one of the gals recommended this book so I gave it a go. This was different from most true crime books in that the author has a personal and connection to the case so his search for the killer is a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Which I liked, it kept me reading. Occasionally some facts were repeated but to be honest it probably helped keep track of the myriad of suspects, witnesses and law enforcement individuals involved. All in all, I stayed up late to finish it. I almost never give 5 star reviews so if you're less picky, make this a 5 in your head!

This is very sad tale, and I do think Renner searched for the truth in Amy's disappearance and murder. He investigated all the possibilities as best to his knowledge and tried to come up with the answers to who abducted and ultimately killed this young girl. His obsession with this case (and Maura Murray's case seems a little unheathly to me) but I hope someday there will be answers. Thank you Mr. Renner for caring.

The author's investigative work is compelling and complete. His relentless search to find Amy's killer unravels a complex story that involved so many. Amy was taken too soon and yet the eleven year old girl meant so much and still does to all who knew her. Teach our kids about the predators, the evil lurking. We live in a world that our children must know the reality that had things happen to good people. RIP Amy.

Having encountered James Renner through his blogs and interviews, you can tell he cares about Amy Mihaljevic's case. The journey started when James watched an Ohio local news report on Amy's disappearance back in 1989. A child himself, he desperately wished the missing girl was alive. Not long after Amy was discovered dead. Later in 2005, James begins to research Amy's murder. The Cleveland reporter documents his interviews and encounters while expressing his personal decent into this mystery. Just like TRUE CRIME ADDICT, James writes another fascinating take on a real life case.

Huge James Renner fan. I’ve read this book several times. Sadly, still unsolved. An interesting case , with the author doing a great job researching possible suspects. Very detailed, but also told with great compassion for Amy’s family.
